Hi there lovelies,
I have some good news for my UK customers today :) Many of you have been requesting this and now finally your wish has come true: a lot of my products are now available at Seven Hills Crafts! Yay!
To celebrate this occasion, I've created a few cards using products that you can now purchase at Seven Hills Crafts as well.
All but my shaped card today are 5x7" size. The first card features the following products:
- Boom Background 5x7" cover plate (or from SHC here)
- Hippie Bus die set (or from SHC here)
- Jumbo Emoji die set (or from SHC here)
I used two yellow/mustard tone card stocks to create my background. I didn't want to make a super colorful background because I knew that my focus point, the retro van, will be already colorful and I wanted it to stand out.
First I die cut the van from heavy weight white card stock and glued all pieces onto a scrap piece of CS. I then fussy cut it out. I find it easier to have a base on which I can build my colors, if that makes sense. This way I don't have to worry about not placing something exactly right.
I die then cut the van in a few different colors. Well, not completely. Sometimes I just used scraps to die cut parts of the van, because I only really wanted to create two - and also didn't want to waste paper.
This set also includes an outline/shadow die, so you can create shape cards, or like in my first example here, a base for your van. I die cut this base from white card stock, and then popped my van onto it using foam tape.
To add a bit of different texture, I glued a few glitter enamel dots on the lights. Now I realise, this would have been a good spot for tiny LED lights! I in fact have some from Pear Blossom Press, I just never really make interactive cards, so I always forget that I have these interactive elements. It's a pity because it would have been so cute, I think!
The sentiment I die cut from white card stock a few times. The first layer I glued onto a piece of CS, then fussy cut it out. Then I added a few layers of the letters, from white CS. Last I glued blue die cut letters on top and added a few little white details with a gel pen.
On my next card I've used:
- New Wave Background 5x7" cover plate (or from SHC here)
- Emojis die set (or from SHC here)
- Modern Sentiments - Happy Everything die set (or from SHC here)
For this next card, I die cut sections of the New Wave BG from different colors. Again, I wasn't planning to make a load of backgrounds, so I didn't want to waste paper and die cut the whole panel from all the different colors.
I then created my 6 emojis. Everything I make always has several layers, so that they are sturdy and don't crush in the mail. So here, I die cut the circles from yellow and white CS, glued them together and also added foam tape to the back. I also die cut the heart eyes from both CS and popped them onto the circle base. I added the mouths as well. And a few little white gel pen details.
I used a sentiment that I already created when I released these products, because it was quick and easy :) But if you want to see how I go about making these kinds of sentiments exactly, you'll find them in various videos on my YouTube channel (for example here and here or a quicker but less pretty way here)! I also added a bunch of different color glitter enamel dots for a little bling.
On my third card I've used:
- Boom Background 5x7" cover plate (or from SHC here)
- Jumbo Emoji die set (or from SHC here)
- Modern Sentiments - Basics die set (or from SHC here)
I built my background using yellow and blue tones so I could create my big emoji in the red and pink tones I've used for all my cards today. I put together the emoji - as you can see it's really big and consists of only a few pieces, so this goes really fast. You could also turn this into a shaped card! I used a thin foam tape to assemble all parts of the emoji to give my card a little bit of dimension.
To finish off my card, I've placed a few glitter enamels dots on my background and added some white gel pen details on my emoji. Oh, and a sentiment, of course :D
Next up is another New Wave Background! I love creating colorful backgrounds, it's my favorite thing!
- New Wave Background 5x7" cover plate (or from SHC here)
- Disco Alpha Solid die set (or from SHC here)
- Disco Alpha Outline die set (or from SHC here)
In this case I created a sort of ombre look with the waves, then I repeated the section as many times as the background allowed for it. Next, I prepared my letters; I die cut each of them 3 times for the white letters, and then added a color layer on top of some, that I then added the outline letters onto. Does that make sense?! :D
As a finishing touch I added some enamel dots and tadaaa!
OK, this next card is what I call a "leftover card" where I use bits and pieces of die cuts that I have left over from the previous projects. To be fair, once I figured out what I want to do with the leftovers, I ended up having to die cut a whole lot more circles and stars to fill up this big card haha!
- Emojis die set (or from SHC here)
- Jumbo Emoji die set (or from SHC here)
- Modern Sentiments - Basics die set (or from SHC here)
As you can see, I tried to mix the colors of the circles and stars a bit, to create a super colorful background. I sort of went with a grid pattern here. I tried so many different patterns, but somehow none of them looked right to me - so I ended up with this simple one. Grid designs work every time!
But because I actually prefer random placements, I had to add something that broke up my grid a little bit hahaha! So I picked out some matching glitter enamel dots and tried to place them a bit differently on each star. Or at least the stars next to each other!
And then of course I had some leftovers for another Hippie Bus, so I decided to create a small, shaped card! This time without a sentiment. You can just stamp a sentiment on the inside or go without it altogether!
So, that's it for today's projects! I hope I could inspire you to grab some of your old products and create something new with them!
Sorry, I have no video tutorial this time - I really just wanted to focus on creating...It's been so stressful these past months, I needed a little fun. Not that I don't enjoy making videos, but you know what I mean! I didn't want to think about anything, I just wanted to create. As always, you can reach out if you have questions, I'm happy to answer.
Please head to the SHC Blog every day this week for more inspiration AND on Friday for a GIVEAWAY! Woohoo!
Have a great week and happy shopping!
